Programme:
The Pielachtal is a typical part of the Mostviertel. The dirndl, the bright red fruit of the Cornelian cherry bush, is a symbol of the natural wealth of the valley. They also give the Pielachtal the affectionate name "Dirndl valley".
At the beginning of this day trip you will visit the 1st Cornelian cherry factory on a mountain farm in the idyllic Pielachtal. According to ancient tradition and with a lot of heart and soul, high-quality old fruit varieties, especially the dirndl wild fruit, are processed here into fine wines, jams and vinegars of the highest quality. On a guided tour including a film screening, you can take a look behind the scenes of the distillery and manufactory and learn everything you need to know about the coveted fruit from the 1st Pielach dirndl queen. Finally, taste some of the most popular dirndl specialties, including 3 different types of brandy, chocolate, jam, mustard and vinegar.
In the pub Steinschaler Hof you can enjoy a regional and seasonal lunch from the "Steinschaler wild herbs kitchen". After the meal you have the opportunity to cover part of the further route with the Mariazeller train (optional for a surcharge).
The afternoon is all about the Middle Ages. You will visit the Schallaburg castle, an imposing 1,000-year-old work of art. The fortifications in front of the later built Renaissance castle still stand today. Accompanied by a cultural mediator, you will embark on a guided tour through the current exhibition at the Schallaburg. Did you know that sport was already a topic at the Schallaburg almost 500 years ago? With instinctive archery, you will learn how to use a bow and arrow in the ambience of an original Renaissance shooting range. Trust your body and intuitively hit the mark. At the end you can roam the garden on your own or visit the castle.
