Winter equipment requirement - which regulations apply to cars?
For passenger cars, passenger cars with light or heavy trailers and for small trucks, a weather-dependent winter equipment requirement applies from 1 November to 15 April. Anyone driving on winter road conditions without winter tires risks a penalty of 60 euros. If other road users are endangered, theoretically even up to 5,000 euros may be punishable.

In Austria tolls are required on all motorways and expressways:
The vignette for motor vehicles up to 3.5 t is available both in digital form and as a classic adhesive sticker.
OUR TIP: The digital vignette! No sticking, no scratching: the digital vignette is bound to the license plate. So you do not have to stick the vignette on the windshield or scratch it off.

Special toll roads / toll roads
Regardless of the vignette is charged for certain tunnel passages or mountain roads a road toll, tolls are u.a. to pay for the following important toll roads: Arlberg road tunnel, Brenner motorway, Dachstein road, Felbertauern road, Gerlos Alpine road, Grossglockner-Hochalpen road, Maltatal-Hochalm road, Nockalm road, Pyhrn highway (Gleinalm tunnel), Pyhrn highway (Bosruckunnel), Silvretta High Alpine Road, Tauern Motorway (Tauern and Katschberg Tunnels), Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, Villach Alpine Road - Dobratsch, Karawankentunnel.
