Snow-shoeing in Upper Austria
View all 3 images
Description
Snowshoe hiking is the ultimate winter nature experience for all those who love to be out in the fresh air in a white landscape, away from all the pistes and cross-country trails. With modern snowshoes that prevent you from sinking into the deep snow, you can enjoy the silence and isolation as you trudge through the snow. As a reward, rustic huts with regional specialties await you. Far away from the crowds, experienced mountain hikers and amateur hikers alike can enjoy high alpine experiences that will delight everyone. Step by step, winter sports enthusiasts hike across the idyllic alpine winter landscape and explore unplowed terrain. Mighty peaks such as the Hohe Dachstein keep coming into view.
The tour is weather and avalanche dependent! Weather-related changes to the route are possible. The following average times were used for the calculated walking times: Per hour: 2.6 kilometers in length / 200 meters in altitude
Price per person/offer:
DBL: EUR 575,-
SGL: EUR 735,-
Program:
Day 1:
Individual arrival in the climatic health resort of Bad Goisern
Arrival by car or public transport to sun-drenched Bad Goisern. Depending on your arrival time, a visit to the craft house is worthwhile. Traditional, old craftsmanship is demonstrated here, but also the path to modern working methods in the craft industry is shown. In the hotel you will receive your travel documents and a welcome schnapps.
Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
Day 2:
Dachstein high plateau on the Krippenstein
Take the public bus to the valley station of the Krippenstein cable car. This takes you to the Schönbergalm (middle station) and then over steep rock faces to the high Krippenstein at a height of 2,100 meters. Located on the northern edge of the Dachstein massif, this limestone massif offers an overwhelming view of the wide karst plateau of the Dachstein.
From here there are several ways to explore the plateau:
Option 1 (easy) Heilbronnerkreuz: approx. 7.3 km, 2.5 - 3 hours, elevation gain/loss: 400
From the Krippenstein cable car mountain station, hike the signposted circular route to the Heilbronnerkreuz. Here you can enjoy the spectacular view over the Dachstein high plateau. From the cross, it takes 1 ½ hours to the third section of the cable car, which takes you back to the starting point. You can also hike an extra section along the ski slope to the Krippenstein mountain station.
Option 2 (medium) Wiesberghaus: approx. 10.9 km, 4 hours, elevation gain/loss: 700
From the Krippenstein mountain station, take the gondola again - this time to the Gjaidalm, which is a good place to stop for a quick snack. The karst plateau north of the Hoher Dachstein is a wonderful area for technically easy snowshoe tours. The views sweep over the Salzburg region as well as to the glaciers and rock castles of the Dachstein peaks. The path follows the gentle ups and downs through this wonderful natural landscape before you can enjoy the sun terrace at the Wiesberghaus at 1,882 meters. Finally, you go back to the cable car station and gondola back down to the valley.
Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
Day 3:
Goisererhütte and Kalmberg: approx. 12 km, 5 hours. Elevation gain/loss: 1066 (without the climb to the Kalmberg, the route is reduced by around 2.5 km and 200 meters)
Today you set off for the Gosau Valley by public bus. The tour to the Goiserer Hütte with refreshment stop and to the Hoher Kalmberg is a wonderful destination for a snowshoe tour with a view of the Dachstein and the Gosaukamm. In the Ramsau district, the signposted ascent begins through forest areas and over a large alpine pasture area, such as the Iglmoosalm and numerous other (unfortunately unmanaged) huts. The ascent goes through a mountain spruce forest over the Schartenalm and towards the Goiserer Hütte. Once there, the fabulous panorama of the Goiserertal valley stretches out below you. Depending on your fitness, you can hike further past the Kalmoos church to the high Kalmberg before returning to Gosau and taking the bus to Bad Goisern.
Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
Day 4:
Relaxation day in Bad Ischl with a visit to the brine bath
