The Krems Art Mile, at the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau, is the first address for art in Lower Austria. In an impressive location near the Danube, between the historic old towns of Krems and Stein, three large museums on Museum Square offer a diverse range of exhibitions and events all year round.
Art meets world heritage
The spectacular museum building of the Lower Austria State Gallery offers 3,000m² of space for exciting exhibitions and impressive installations. Works by world-famous artists such as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka are presented. In an interesting multimedia guide tour, visitors can delve deeply into the topic of UNESCO World Heritage. Atmospheric paintings by Wachau painters show the unmistakable beauty of the region. The visitor experience is rounded off by the sensational view of the Danube and Göttweig Abbey from the roof terrace.

The Krems Caricature Museum is entirely dedicated to humor. Austria's unique museum for caricature and critical drawing shows the range from international comics to cartoons, manga and political caricature in changing exhibitions. Works by major figures in the scene such as Manfred Deix, Erich Sokol, Bruno Haberzettl, Rudi Hurzlmeier and Paul Flora can be discovered here.
TIP: Well-stocked museum shops with regional products are also open on Sundays and public holidays.
